When my youngest son came home from school with a valentine, signed love with x’s and o’s whereupon he asked, “What does that have to do with love? My writers brain started thinking of all the historical references to the practice of indicating hugs and kisses with an x and an o… He shook his head, “no, what does hugging and kissing have to do with love?”
That’s the question that often is asked about clean romance. How can you have romance and no intimate or explicit content? We all know exactly what hugs and kisses have to do with it; why not include it?
My son’s question made me think a little deeper about what true love is.
Its the woman who raises her nine children, alone because she’d rather have a good man who has passed on, than a man who loves her but not her mentally handicapped child.
It’s a man who sits beside his 5 year old daughter while she throws up and holds her hair back and rubs her back even though the smell makes him want to hurl himself.
It’s a child who gives up the one dollar and eighty cents he’s been saving for four months to buy a soda for his sister because her goldfish went down the toilet, along with his turtle and she can’t see through her tears.
While the necessity of physical love is clear and only as important as oxygen; you only miss it when you don’t have it, the reasons the relationships are the story are pretty obvious to all who ever felt it, longed for it and miss it in their lives.]http://www.trinitymoon.com
